Title: {Sweet Bitter Charity}
Okay, CIP today. And we were like...
forced asked to help do the charity, that is the traditional "Please-donate-some-money-to-the-needy" charity.
I was kinda disappointed when people are not cooperating with me us.
What the heck...
Some people just smiled and declined and walked away.
Hey! At least they smiled right?
But here is a scenario: Imagine you are doing the charity. The place that you're doing the charity is crowded with people. You asked one of the passers-by to donate. They ignored your presence and treated you like a glass. And it is not just that person, it's everyone who did that. How would you have felt?
I would have felt bad, wait, not just bad, very pissed off...
Where did all the generosity and the courtesy went to?
Here are some types of people who you might meet while doing the CIP. (In my opinion)
Arranged from how cruel to kind...
1) People noticed you, but they give some unkind/hurting/unsensitive remarks. (2%)
2) People walked in front of you and did not 'notice' you and they went passed. (15%)
3) People turned to their friend or direction to stay you away from their line of sight. (10%)
4) People walked pass you and did not turned to look at you, but they raised up their hand to signal that they do not want to donate. (10%)
5) People used the sticker that they had receive after they had donated once as an evidence that they did not want to donate. (15%)
6) People who asked questions about the charity organisation or something. (3%)
7) Same as 5, but at least they smiled. (10%)
8) Same as 4, but they looked at you and smiled. (15%)
9) People donating money. (10%)
10) Same as 4, but they said sorry or something like that. (8%)
11) People who are able to make a good relationship between people. (2%)
Extra) Security guards/ patrol asking you to get out of building because you are trying to do charity in their 'territory'.
I'm just wondering, is it because of the financial crisis or what, that made most of the people declined donating some coins to charity or is it just the nature of the Singaporean people? But even so, they should at least smile a bit. I can't actually believe that there are such people (from group 1) around. Maybe that's why Singapore is ranked the 131st in the happiness index, huh?
Or maybe Singaporeans are too money-minded/selfish?
Yeah, anyway both are a possibilities to that question.
On the other hand, I would like to comment on the charity organisation, SHF (I shall not elaborate on the name) why would they want to hold such an island-wide event on one single day. There were many school doing that charity thing on that single day. (I stress again, many schools) Perhaps that's why people are getting fed up as the meet one person saying, "Please donate some money to the needy..." over and over again, and so they reject with such cold-heartedness... I think they should reduce the number of people who are participants participate in this Flag Day (did I mention that it is flag day?). But hey, students need to earn CIP points right? So overall, I think that this (A lot of school doing charity) is inevitable...
So how? Are people getting more selfish as the time passes or what? Will there be a day when there is no such thing called generosity? Only time will tell for sure. (We can't do anything about it, right?
Played in Timezone to relive stress and forget all the worries after the Flag day donation. Wow... Can't believe the power of playing can strip away the 'agony' that easily. =)
To YingYang: Thanks for pressing the red button and letting me play a lvl 34 song.
If only I can write that well for my SS SEQs & SBQs...
Tag replies =)
