Title: {Competitions}
Hi, it's been a (long) while since I updated on the blog, haha.
Actually, I have nothing to blog nowadays, probably because it's the June Holidays already. Man, time really flies a whole lot faster than we expected. It's been 6 months since the WYCF and about 14 months (1 year 2 months) since the Parcels Performance. Cool, eh?
*thinking of what to write next*
Let's see, erm, yeah. The Maths Trail organised by YJC was average la. There were 2 teams from our school, and it consist of my classmates (Yep, same class ;) ) So my group is Team 1.
The venue is at Sentosa and we had to pay the entrance fee ($3) although it is organised by them. Sigh, budget. I guess the economy is still affected.
It's a Maths Trail, so one would expect Maths questions to come out, so... I was prepared before I came, well, almost. My team consist of M, S, J, and me (Sorry for putting their initial, I just want some privacy). So we were given clues that would lead us to the next stations and eventually the final one. (Typical.) So yeah, we started at that Beach Station in Sentosa. Before that, we took the monorail there, not much progress with that resort (in my opinion) and I could see some retarded people waving their hands at me at the stations... Before the match, I met some of my ex-classmates, but I ignored them. Yeah, I think they have forgotten me already... Sigh...
The first clue is near the Dolphin Lagoon. Yeap, it was pretty far, so after some discussions, we decided to walked there. (Don't ask me why.) The first clue was a piece of cake. Plotting a timetable and giving direct answers from the table. Fin.
Then we were given the next clue to the next station. Yep. Unfortunately, it was on the other end of Sentosa. Dang. There goes our chance of getting first. We took a tram there, by the way. The second task is a bit more difficult than the first, and we struggled quite a bit. It's asking you about leap years. Dang, again. I can't believe I actually manage to explain why the last two digit of a number is important in determine whether it is divisible by 4. I've never felt so proud at that time...
The next station was the station before the Beach station, that is, that Imbiah station (dunno why is it called like that). We thought that there was a bus that can take us there quickly, found out that it was actually travelling the other way. Sad. But anyway, we alighted at a stop quite near, but also quite far, and had a fantastic view of the Merlion before heading to the nearby station. Didn't know that the Merlion was that monstrous giant. We flunked the test over there and tada. That's it. There's no hope of getting a place for the competition.
Last station was located near beach station, so we took monorail there. Once again, I saw those people waving their hands at those tourist/people in the monorail. They look retarded but anyway, the last station's questions involves trigonometry. Dang. Stupid sin, cos, and tan. Darn. Struggled a bit before we head down to the meeting point.
But wait, we stopped at beach station for refreshments (Hey, we went around the island for about 2 hours already... And nothing to drink except for plain water from our bottles...) Bought a Slurpee Brainfreeze. It's the same price throughout the whole Singapore island. But sadly, there's only one flavor, coke. We slacked and took our time to finish our drink. Big mistake.
At the meeting point, which is at that darn it Siloso Beach. (Had to travel back there again since the first station.) Woah. That place was flooded with people, and that's it. They are already prepared to announce the result, well, almost. From what I can see, they apparently let the winners sit on the seat and the non-winner (cannot say 'losers') to stand. And so we stood. End of story. Our team didn't win. The other team managed to take a seat and got themselves a pair of teddy bears. That's what they got for getting 6th. =D
Suddenly, I feel like writing more...
Another thing that happened these days was the "Chemistry -- Facts or fantasy" Competition. We went to NUS this time. Before that, my teammates and I waited for another teammate for about 20 minutes outside the school gate before we finally left. Cool, eh. Our teams were trying to hail a 6-seater cab (which, by right is pretty rare in this area), but in the end, we got ourselves 2 normal 4-seater cabs. (definitely cost more.) Then we left. I still can't believe that the taxi took us to Woodlands before taking us to NUS, which is near Dover. (Via Seletar Expresway and Bukit Timah Expressway.)
The taxi drove into the NUS campus, and boy, it's sure large. There is a bus service there. Lower Kent Ridge Road. Right. We climbed what seemed like a "hill" before reaching the destination. Science Facility, Lecture Theatre 32. Cool. The lecture hall was somewhat like a sector of a circle. And it is able to hold 66 teams of 3 and still have some seats not taken. We were given a remote-controlled answering machine for each team and I wanted to get a feel of it. But the other teammate took away. Sad.
There are a total of 3 rounds for this competition. Each questions in Round One is worth 1 marks and there is a total of 50 questions. Wow. It was a headache trying to answer bit by bit. Argh. The questions asked were like, tricky? Yeah, in the end 36 teams had to go, leaving the 30 teams behind. Our team managed to got through, but the other one... Never mind, then there comes round two. Two sections: section one question are worth two marks and section two is worth four. Unfair. This time, 15 teams we're eliminated, only leaving us and the fourteen teams. We lost at Round three though. Haha. Well we still gained some experience The forth and the fifth place goes to Tanjong Katong Girls School and Hwa Chong respectively. (Can't believe that HC lost to a neighbourhood school) The top 3 places all goes to Raffles (all their three teams). Wth.
That's it. All ends here. Fin.
